ad'aware found the belt.exe virus and said it fixed it. But, I was looking in my msconfig and saw it there, checked off. when i unchecked it and restarted my computer it said I now couldn't do a normal start-up unless I put back what i had unchecked. I found it sitting in my c:/windows as a 'configuration setting".. what should I do. each time I unchecked it it flips to diagnostic start-up

AD-AWARE IS NOT AN ANTI_VIRAL PROGRAM. IT IS A ADWARE/SPYWARE REMOVAL TOOL. Get a real anti-virus program like McAfee or Norton.
That you are using a adware/spyware removal tool to try and remove a VIRUS is why you still have the bloody thing.

When you uncheck anything in msconfig and let it reboot, it shows a window at startup. At the bottom of the window it says something like> don't show me this again. If you check the box next to it it will not show you that again. It's SOP for windows.

thank u 4 your advice. I did what u said but when I do that it bounces to the diagnostic settings at start-up in my msconif which loads basic devices and sevices only instead of loading all devices drivers and services. the file itself is sitting in c/windows.. I deleted the application long ago and thought it was gone.. I just checked mscon for the heck of it and found it there

I don't understand what u mean "can't have my cake and eat it too".. I would like to be able to do a "normal start-up". I didn't think that was unreasonable. Maybe it is.
