virus, can't run malwarebytes

Specs: Windows XP
i have the same problem like many others but the fixed stated are not working for me.

-had a licensed copy of malwarbytes, protection was running.
-huband closed it, didn't know what it was.
-instantly got a virus.
-had one similar before with no programs or apps able to start. no access to task manager ect
-tried renaming mbam didnt work, said it was right protected.
-uninstalled mbam. downloaded again from site not my disk
-renamed it tool.exe. saved
-installed it. installed updates (which wasnt working before)
-(all of this is being done in safe mode)
-as soon as mbam starts to run a quick scan. it closes.
-then when i click to open it again it give me this message:
windows cannot access the specified device path or file you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
renaming isnt working. Please Help!!

You have a lot of problems that need to be corrected. One is what they call best practices. You are not using enough to protect your system. I'd bet you are running as an admin. Might not have a good hosts file.

At this point I'd suggest you do a clean install from OEM disks. Rootkits follow virus's so I can't be sure you could get it all out.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
