I have the same problem fixing a friend's computer. I've removed everything from registry, used Panda, Ewido, Cleanup, smitRem, HijackThis etc, and I am running the latest updates of Nav.

Norton's will not quarantine it, rename it, copy it, delete it - full stop. In Explorer, I cannot manually remove the file, copy it, rename it - full stop.

What else can I do?

Thanx

I have the same issue. Norton Antivirus was totally up todate being on Liveupdate everyday but it cannot repair or quarantine the file.
The Norton message that the computer is infected constantly appears, the desktop has been hijacked (including the desktop option in the control panel - only screensaver available), and it will not allow me to connect to the internet and so I cannot download any fixes (I am searching on the internet for help and sending this email from another computer).

I have no idea what to do next.

I have the same problem, but was able to at least get to the internet. From a different computer I downloaded and purchased XoftSpy, installed it and removed ALL files it found. Once I did this I am able to connect to the internet.

I then also downloaded and ran Hijackthis and removed all suspicious files (be careful what you remove, unlike XoftSpy or Ad-aware, you should NOT remove all items found).

Additionally, Ad-aware has been downloaded, installed, updated and ran.

The desktop is still hijacked: i.e., I cannot make any changes to the properties, and Symantec (also current with 7/20/05 updates) continues to find a virus in file intell.exe.

I booted in safe mode, dos prompt only, removed the file. Booted up again and it IS back!

But at least I have access to the internet.
