Please help, I can't remove the VIRUS ALERT! notice in my system tray, and I can no longer see my C: drive under my computer. I ran Norton and Avira and still unable to see the drive or remove the notice.

It might be a different version of one I fought recently. I don't remember the exact name, but it ended in 2008 in the name. I downloaded a prog called SUPERAntiSpyware and it did a super job cleaning everything up from several embedded types of malware. Just a suggestion... creekstar

I agree with Creekstar, SuperAntispyware is great, I use it a lot cleaning customer's systems.

Sometimes the maleware is so bad though that it won't even let Superantispyaware install. I usually run "combofix" first and it takes care of the worst of it, but you still need to run SuperAntispayware when you can.

Download Combofix from here and save it to your desktop and then run it:

I have same issue - I think it is a relatively new virus. I got it while downloading a torrent, it apparently was embedded in it and found a way through. I hate it! superantispyware did nothing!

Scan your system with Nod32 and SuperAntispyware, after that open your run by pressing windows and R key simultaneously and type "gpedit.msc" in system tab under user configuration disable registry editing tool then disable task manager policy.
Now come to start menu policy and disable "remove run menu from start menu" & under windows component go to windows explorer policy and disable "hide these specified drives in my computer"
