The virtual memeory or page file settings are too low.

r.clk My computer > select properties > select advanced tab > under performance..select settings button > select advance tab > under virtual memory select change button....the standard is one and a half times the amount of ram in your case it should be set for three gigs.

Odds are the message you are seeing isn't relevant. Programs will do a "grab bag" concerning errors when they don't know what is going on.

You say a new motherboard.
Did you reinstall XP fresh?
Is the mainboard x64?
Did you install xp x64?

It is advised you set paging to system managed. It works best for 95% of users.

XP x64 is a 64bit version of xp. You can run 32 bit and 64 bit versions of xp on a 64bit board.

Following Lurkswithin's path to the pagefile what was it set at?

I would suspect system managed unless someone altered it because that is what it goes to at install defaults.

Have you scanned for spyware/malware/virus's?
They are a common source for the pagefile error.

What games does he play? Did you install a video card or are you using the onboard video? If you're using the onboard, that *may* be the problem.

Right click on My Computer, then click Properties...what does it say under System?

I asked you to look under SYSTEM. It will say "Microsoft Windows XP" on the top line...what does it say under that?

When you reinstalled Windows after the format, did you install the motherboard chipset drivers, onboard video drivers, sound drivers, etc?

There you go. You do not have XP x64, you have XP Pro SP3.

Now, do you know if the necessary drivers were installed?

OK, what about the BIOS settings? Manually configured or running defaults? How much system memory is allocated for the onboard video? Did you disable Cool 'n' Quiet?

Have you tried just installing Win98 or Win2000 and doing that? I'm thinking it may be software compatibility issues, but I forget if Win2000 and WinXP are based on the same codebase.

It is running defaults, cool n' quiet is enabled and system memory says installed size 1024mb and usable size 896.

We don't even have win98 or 2000 anymore

If you right-click on the EXE file that starts the program, there is a tab for Compatibility and you can try to enable compatibility mode for that particular software. I haven't had much luck in the past if I wanted to run an old game. Maybe you can pick up a cheap copy of Win98 on eBay.

I ran a quick search on Google, you should check it out, too, seems some people are having similar problems.
