I'm having two problems on my computer at the moment, and the Virtual memory being too low is hindering me from fixing the other problem. I can't start in Normal mode OR Safe mode, and was wondering what I would do to fix the Virtual memory because it is too low at the moment.

From what you just said, it sounds like you have no idea what virtual memory is and you just read it on an alert or whatever that popped up one day while using your computer. In any case to increase your pagefile (the chunk of your harddrive that holds virtual memory which is just HD space that acts like memory) go to the control panel->system->advanced tab->under preformance go to settings->advanced tab->then under virtual memory press change. Then choose the partition you want the page file to be in then set the size. If you have enough harddrive space, set the page file to about 1.5 times the amount of memory you have, then press set.

No out of curiousity, what was the other problem that you couldn't fix because of not having enough memory? Oh, and not being able to start in normal or safe mode could be an entirely different problem.

E-mail me if what I said helped, it's part of the 12 steps.

I can't use your solution to fix the virtual memory because I cannot get to the Control Panel
The other problem I have is that windows has a problem activating my license. I do NOT have an illegal copy of Windows XP, and this has problem has just recently come up. I cannot start up in safe mode or normal mode, or the "last configuation that worked" (on the F8 menu). I asked about virtual memeory first because it kept freezing whenever I tried to start it in in every mode.

P.S.- Yes, I have no idea what virtual memory is, that's why i'm on these forums.

I 'm having a similar problem. When I start my PC, after booting, it prompts for login (I have created two users). When I click on one of the user it gives the message "Loading personal settings...". After 10 minutes gives errors like "Error in line 405" or "Unable to load.." or " Virtual Memory too low" etc and it goes back to login screen. Very rarely it logins with message VM too low. I checked the Virtual Memory, it is set to 618MB. I even tried to repair the OS, it did not help. I thinking to reformat my HD. Before formatting I want to copy some video files to USB HD. When I tried to copy 7GB file to USB drive, it says there is no space, even though there is 70GB free space on USB HD. I don't know where to go from here. Your help is greatly appreciated
