virtual memory problem at startup

OS: win xp pro
CPU/Ram: 333 / 512

During startup i am getting a error message along the lines of "512k of low memory need to boot windows nt, 0k is available" now i have tried switching out ram sticks, which did nothing... i put in another hard drive with win2000 on it, still no boot, also i have tried unplugging uneccessary components(i.e cd roms and floppies) i have also searched online through forums and through microsoft help...
hopefully someone here can help me
