Hey, hoping someone can help me out with this because it has gotten me pretty flustered over the past hour or so, so, here I am. Ok, first off I'm on a small network of about 5-6 computers, all running Win XP Pro. We are all connected behind a Linksys router, and a few are using the build in DHCP and a few have static IP's assigned to them. Now here is the tricky part, all the computers can access the internet, all of the computers can ping each other, and all of the computers can view the other share directories if you type the ip/computer name into explorer...however, NONE of the computers can properly view the network computers. If you open My Network Places, then click on "View network computers" you get the following message on all the machines: "Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available." The other odd thing is that all of this was working properly less than a week ago, then I took one of the computers to a different LAN, and bam, when I hooked it back up, this is what I get. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks a bunch in advance.

Your Windows XP computer cannot browse computers in the workgroup or access shared folders?

You experience the subject difficulty in a peer-to-peer network if you disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on one or more computers in the workgroup and the Computer Browser service is NOT started on one or more computers in the workgroup.

You may receive the following error when you double-click My Network Places:

is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource.

To resolve the problem, perform the following on every computer in the workgroup:

01. Control Panel / [Network and Internet Connections] / Network Connections.

02. Right-click Local Area Connection and press Properties.

03. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and press Properties.

04. On the General tab, press Advanced.

05. On the WINS tab, check Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP and press OK.

06. Press OK and Close.

07. Right-click My Computer and press Manage.

08. Expand Services and Applications.

09. If the Computer Browser service is NOT started, right-click Computer Browser and press Start. Right-click Computer Browser and press Properties. Set Startup type to Automatic and press Apply and OK.

Thanks for the replies guys, but unfortunately none of these fixed my problem. I verified that yes, the Computer Browser Service is running on all the computers, also, since all the computers are on Win XP the NetBIOS setting *shouldn't* mattter (however, I tried to turn them all on and still nothing.) The problem isnt that I cant access the computers, its just that when I go into My Network Places, nothing shows up, then if I click on View workgroup computers, no computers show up and I get the error message. If I manually access the files by going into explorer and typing in, for example "file://computername/" I will get the proper share, and I'll be able to access all of the files with no problem. The only issue is when I try and browse the network through My Network Places.

Do all of the machines have the same workgroup defined? (network identification)

Are you running any firewalls on each machine? (such as the XP standard one)

Dead_Lucky, actually all of the computers are in the same workgroup ("Workgroup") also, none of the computers have any firewalls installed. Here is a new development as well: If I switch the computers to the "MShome" workgroup, I can view all the computers on the network fine, its just if any computers are on the "Workgroup" workgroup everything gets all screwed up...any ideas because I certianly dont have any, hehe.
