Sometimes when I play movies\videos on my computer that are AVI or Divx format, the movie freezes momentarily (kind of delays then garbles) every five minutes or so throughout the film. When it happens in a movie it happens consistently - as in it only happens with some movies, but when it happens it happens throughout the movie. It doesn't seem to happen when I play DVD discs from my DVD drive. When it happens, it does it whether I play the movie with VLC, media player classic, or Win Med Player. (All updated versions). I'm using K lite codec pack 3.8.0. This only started happening after I reformatted and re-installed Win XP Pro on a SATA drive. Previously I had a Serial ATA. (Don't know whether this is coincidental or related) I've tried uninstalling, re-downloading, and re-installing Klite. No help. Any ideas what could cause this problem?

FYI: SATA = Serial ATA = Serial Advanced Technology Attachment

Did you mean that you previously had a Parallel ATA (PATA), connected to an IDE controller?

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Sorry, yes that's what I meant, previous it was PATA on IDE. Thanks for catching that

Did you reinstall the motherboard drivers after the reinstall of XP?

Thanks aegis, I did re-install the mobo drivers.
Yesterday I finally discovered what the problem was. I used task manager to view the CPU usage when the video was running, and when the video froze the CPU was spiking from 20%to about 95%. I just observed which running process was causing the drain. It was a P2P file sharing program, bittorrent. It also explains the "intermittent" aspect of the problem. After I shut the program down the problem stopped. Thanks all who responded.
