Video problems! Annoying!

I am having a rather annoying problem, randomly my computer wont play videos, i'll have to log off/on or restart to make them work again. This sometimes happens with itunes too, i have installed latest video and sound drivers but still no luck. When i try to play a video/sound the program loads (WMP VLC etc) but nothing actually plays, the program just freezes but after a restart its all fine. Its driving me mad. HELP
