Subject: Video playback problem
OS: WinXP Pro Sp2
CPU/Ram: AMD xp 2600+ Ram 768MB DD
Comment:

All video playback looks as if the brightness is turned up full, some videos also appear to be pixelated with large blocks of colour, some even look like their in negative.

This problem exists with all players I have tried - WMP, WinAmp, RealPlayer etc.
And as far as I know all video formats - have tried mpg, mpeg, avi, wmv. I don't have any other types to try.

I have installed new codec packs, updated DirectShow and WMP, all with no luck.

Anybody any ideas please?

Thanks,
Neohet.

What type of video card do you have? I'd try updating the drivers. Are you sure it's not just the videos? At what stage did the problem start?

Video card is MSI GeForce FX5200, I'll try D/L new drivers.

Problem is definatly not the videos, I've tried ones I know worked ok before.

When I discovered the problem I initialy thought it was a low quality/corrupt video and thought nothing of it until quite a while later when I realised it was like this with all videos, now I'm not sure if I had done anything just before the problem started, like installing/uninstalling anything.

I have got MSI Live update set to automaticly check for MoBo and Graphics card updates and I seem to remember it installing a Graphics Driver update not too long ago, that may be the cause. I'll try D/L again, or rollback to older version.

Let you know if I have any luck.

Regards,
Neohet.

BTW, i found a quick work around that works for me but this seems VERY temporary. if you find something more solid let me know.
Right click on desktop and open properties (display properties), select settings tab, and press advanced button. select troubleshoot tab and move the hardware acceleration slider all the way to the left. apply changes and ok everything. see if it starts working. then you can experiment moving the slider back towards right. right now i'm my slider almost half way to the right and my video works find but i'm sure video games speed is going to be crap. hope this works for you and keep in touch in you find a better fix.
