video output missing at VGA port

Specs: Windows XP
When viewing a video using Media Center or other viewing apps, it looks fine on the laptop monitor. However, when I try to see it on a TV attached to the VGA port, I see only the surrounding screen data and not the windows containing the video; that is blank.

different video cards have different ways of addressing porting to a tv.

extend the desktop to the 2nd monitor. then move the movie screen to the tv.
enable monitor in advanced settings

This is something you will have to play with to find the setting that works for you.

Thanks for suggestion.....

It took me a while to remember how I had set up for multiple but separate monitors before, but I finally managed it.

Unfortunately, as I dragged the player window over to the other monitor, the video panel blanked out as before.

I'm not sure if this is related or not, but a neighbor has a similar problem with his ATI card (this laptop has an ATI chipset) where certain windows may show OK on his monitor, but when he tries to capture anything in the window, nothing is saved.

BTW, some additional symptoms which may or may not be relevant....

I tried a different media stream, this time a slideshow in the Firefox browser of some pictures my son sent.

When the Firefox Window was full screen, it could not be dragged over to the other monitor.

However, if I made it less than full screen, I could drag it over OK, "and" the slidehow went with it just fine.

So it's not all images that disappear, just video ones.
