I'm trying to burn some AVI's that I have to a DVD so they'll be playable in my DVD player. I've used Cucosoft AVI to DVD and Easy Video Converter to change the format but when I go to burn a DVD-Video in Nero 6, it states that the file type must be of the VOB, IFO, or BUP variety and the file is now an mpeg file. What's the deal? Thanks.

a good site to go read is www.digitalfaq.com.

i have nero6ultra and to burn a dvd file. not too sure about the other programs you have.
first - dont use the nero wizard.
open a new complilation, choose 'dvd' in the top left and then 'dvd-video' as opposed to 'dvd-rom(iso)'

are the avi files you have converted a .vob file?
if so did you know you have to place them ina folder called "VIDEO_TS" [no ""but WITH caps]

another good site is www.dixstation.com

of course the easiest solution is to save them as vcd or svcd files as pretty much all new dvd players can view them. jus burn a 'cd-rom(iso) in nero

d85,

Thanks for the reply. I'm am using nero6 ultra without the wizard and I do know to put them in the VIDEO_TS folder. They are not VOB files though. That's where the problem lies. I don't know why the programs I'm using to convert my old AVI's are not spitting out VOB files but instead are changing the AVI to MPEG's. I know I'm using the prog's right--I can convert to other formats just fine. I would just convert to VCD's but I'm doing this for my elderly parents whose old DVD player won't play VCD's.

Wolf,

Also, thanks for the reply. I already use dvd shrink to backup my purchased dvd's and I don't think that it can convert avi's to dvd. At least when I tried to open a file it basically gave me the same error that nero did, saying that it was the wrong type of file. As for DVD Decrypter, the website states that it can only recode to VCD or DivX and does not output DVD (VOB) files.

So, any more ideas. Does anyone use a different program than Easy Video Converter or Cucosoft that converts AVI's directly to VOB files? Thanks again folks.

give TMPGEnc a try, converts some file types but i cant remember which ones.

this is a avi-->dvd page that ive yet to try

a very handy piece of software is G-Spot.
basically a lil program to identify file types and types of codecs used. if you have the right codecs it should let you play the film.....try clicking on the numbers 1 after the other.
