here's my problem, guys:

i download video files from the net using various programs. AS SOON as i finish downloading (say, with microsoft i.e.) the bloody file will become IMMEDIATELY associated with one of my video player, usually windows media player. what this means is, if i decide i don't like the video anymore and want to delete it (or if i just want to move it) I CAN'T! i'm forced to PLAY the video file in wmp FIRST and THEN delete it. and sometimes if i don't delete it (or move it) as soon as i play it and close it, i'll have to play it AGAIN!!!

i also use edonkey and as soon as my files complete downloading, it is immediately associated with wmp! the thing is, my mpeg video files DON'T give me this trouble. yes, it's associated with wmp, but i can move and delete it at will! the only thing that is giving me fits is the video (.AVI) files. why is that?

okay, i've tried these things: i've gone into the option in wmp and unclick all the "video formats" that wmp is associated with. which means instead of now being able to just double click on the file and let wmp play them automatically, i have to right-click on the file and pull down the wmp menu to let wmp play it. AND STILL IT DOESN'T HELP! SAME PROBLEMS!

i've tried just about everything, and nothing seems to work. and it's ONLY happened with windows xp. i never had this problem with windows 2000, etc. i hate this because it's such a pain in the butt.

can anyone give me some hints on how to fix this (if it's even possible?)
