Hey all, could anybody help me because i dont know much about video codecs, everytime i play a movie on my pc the sound plays but there is no video, some .avi formats work but most dont, i have a codec pack but not sure if its any good, since i dont know wich codecs to install, i use 'Nimo Codec Final 5.0 Build 8'.

I select the 'basic' install, is there some way to find out wich codec the movie requires to play? or is there some better codec pack that installs every codec so it plays all movies? Thanks in advanced

To see what codec a video file requires try G-SPOT.....

A free player that does not have to be installed and which has slow motion, shows subtitles (if required), and many other features including playing the files WMP can't, try VPLAYER.....

Post back if this sorts the prob.

Cheers.

Another good free program that anylizes an .avi file to what codecs it needs is AVIcodec which tells you what you need for sound and video [sometimes they are different for the same file it appears] and links you to where you can get them for that file.

I recently spent three hair-pulling days trying to figure out one file's codecs before I stumbled upon this gem and had it downloaded and the video burned within half an hour...great little tool.

I actually thought it was just another codec to add to the "millions" I've been downloading that never worked until I realised this was what I really needed.

Hope it helps you like it did me.

For Additional codecs, try the K-Lite Codec Pack, it contains many additional codecs plus the utilities like G-Spot and others..
Goodluck!
