i have geforce 4 mx440 x8 and for some reason it says i am only running a x4, i've updated my bios, my mother board is a msi kt4v-l. i've gone into bios and for some reason it will only allow me to set it to x4, now i dont know if this is because i've updated the bios wrong or if i am not doing something correct.

Did you check the MSI Support Website for the list of approved devices for your motherboard? Your motherboard is also very particular about what memory you must use. You might also check what memory they recommend, while you are at the MSI Website. The VIA 400 has been replaced a new 400a version to resolve the issues that people like you and I have with the 400. I bought some Corsair memory and that fixed my problem. In several tests 2700 memory worked better/faster than 3200, so VIA did not do something right with the 400 chip. There are also some interesting tests at tom's hardware guide about 4X vs 8X cards performance, that might make you feel better if you cannot get the card to work at 8X. Take care and all the best!
ur board is prolly only 4x anyway u will be needing an 8x mobo to support a 8x grafix card
