Hi, I have been trying to fix a friends computer, but have ran into a strange problem. He just reformatted his computer and reinstalled Windows, and after he did, his graphics card would not work. Its an ATI radeon graphics card. He cant play games or even run certain screen savers, it tells him the graphics card is incompatable with Direct3d. When I did a remote desktop into his computer, the graphics card was not listed in device manager, insted a Video controller under other devices that did not have any device drivers installed was visible. Under video properties I cant get any info on the graphics card, no model number, nothing. The system just loads VGA drivers, which cant run games. I have tried several things, but they didnt work. I believe that Windows is not detecting the graphics card, how do I fix this? I am not sure if its built in or installed via PCI as I have not physiclly seen the computer.

Instal the chipset drivers for the motherboard.
If it is for the emachine listed in your header then they should have the drivers available for download if your friend doesn't have a driver disk.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

"Video controller under other devices that did not have any device drivers installed was visible"

So the obvious question would be, has he installed the drivers for his graphics card?

The eMachines W3503 is a Wal-Mart special...lol. Unless he upgraded to a *real* video card, it has ATI Radeon Xpress 200 integrated graphics.

You'll need to download & install the appropriate drivers for the motherboard chipset, integrated video, sound, modem, etc. The eMachines website would be the place to find the drivers, although they should have been included on a CD.
