i need some advice on a good piece of hardware to capture some VHS tapes to PC.
i did read some good reviews on the ati 9800 pro all in wonder.AGP, don't think thats available anymore??.if i went that way it would upgrade my spare PC ( two birds with one stone) but i'm not to bothered a dedicated device would do.

It plugs into a USB port, so it can be used on more than one computer. And Hauppauge are one of (if no the) best video capture brands around.Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

I was not able to find a price on their site for that model (Model 602 WinTV-USB) but did find another with USB 2 (WinTV-PVR-USB2 NTSC (or PAL)) for $129.99 US.
Another alternative worth considering for it's price $79 US. Plextor PX-AV100U. It comes with Win-DVD recording software. Of course these two noted devices do have different features for the price difference.
