So, I installed some software that caused my system to act differently. After uninstalling the software, it is still acting up...namely, startup takes forever. Used MSCONFIG.exe to troubleshoot and discovered that if I uncheck "workstation" in the "Services" tab under msconfig, startup is no problem (very fast as usual). I have no idea what "workstation" implies??

The software that I installed that caused my system to act up required licensing checks on startup and a modification of the environment variable. I have since removed the env. variable and cleaned out any trace of the program on my PC. It's as if the machine is stuck on startup looking for license information???
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
-Jeremy

I imagine you have tried system restore, and scannow? Try these first. Go to M$KB #307545. Follow instructions.

Windows XP tip -- Don't trust system resore, it always fails at the wrong(right) time. Always Always make a backup copy of you registry before installing anything. It only takes one minute.

Thanks scout. i've tried system restore to no avail. have also re-installed windows. Not a full re-install...just "upgrade" in an attempt to fix the registry. The next step is a full re-install....will have to backup my documents, etc.

There is a MS page about slow boot times in XP. Says something like wrong drivers.
Might try sfc.exe /scannow with CD in first.
Look at devices and irq's in device manager.
