I'm using two computers, one is Windows Me pentium 2, the other is Windows XP pentium 4.
The first one(Windows Me) is so slow and slow while browsing, maybe because i'm using a dial-up connection, and the second onw (Windows XP) is not slow, but it's so slow while browsing, the pages take very long to load, it's even slower than the first one (Windows Me)

Why is that??

P.S. i'm using the same ISP in both computers.

I ran into the same problem on a XP home machine hooked up to a cable modem. Eventually found a it was infected with a trojan.

Go to http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

& run the free online virus scan, if it is to slow to even get there. go to Run & type msconfig & look for any suspicios exe files running on start-up, disable these & hopefully this will buy you some browsing time.

It first has to download the scan engine, which if you are on dial-up it may take awhile for it to look at your computer to determine that you indeed need the full engine not just an update.

Try it again, but wait a couple of mins before doing anything, it should come up with a pop-up window, asking if you want to install, click yes. Oh Yeah, it might be a good idea to disable Pop-up stoppers.

above advice is good.

would add download and run from the desktop
stinger
vil.nai.com/vil/stinger

and spybot search and destroy
security.kolla.de

if you dont have a firewall turned on for the connection

start ,control panel, switch to classic view,
network connections
right click the dialup
left properties, left advanced, check the box protect my computer and click ok

get all the critical windows updates(since slow dialup do a few at a time and reboot and repeat a few times a day till caught up)

here is a free xp compatible av if you have none www.grisoft.com
download and keep updated and run weekly avg

i did a full system scan and no virus was found, and the internet browsing is still slow, the web pages take very long to display.

i didn't notice that the internet browsing was this slow because i was on DSL, but now i'm on dial-up.

i think i'll just wait untill i get my DSL back.

Thank you guys for helping me, i really appreciate it :)
