My computer has become very slow to load the desktop. XP sp2. Takes about 3 minutes after the start up audio sound. Very low resources show in Task Manager and Very low mem committment. The Only change I made was to download Acrobat reader II.

Why are you still running SP2? Dump Acrobat Reader & replace it with Foxit Reader, then review your startup entries & disable whatever is unnecessary. You should also install & run CCleaner & do a full virus/malware scan from Safe Mode. Then install SP3. http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig...

Hey, riider,
Thanks for the advice. will pick through it at my leisure cos I did solve my issues by clearing Acrobat Reader from my startup.
I had already disabled all other startup and services stuff
Why is foxit better?
You can slash the amount of start up programs that are eating up your memory and delaying your startup. Use the msconfig. Click Start>RUN>Type msconfig.exe
http://www.delete-computer-history....Search through the start up programs and remove all the programs that are necessary for start up. You can use programs like CCleaner to remove the start-ups also http://www.piriform.com/

@GMH, had already done all the standard config work, but thanks for your response. Once Adobe Reader was uninstalled I have my PC back to scratch. 65 seconds from "on" to Home page loaded in firefox.
Thanks everyone!
