hi all , got my mates xp machine and its full of virusus , he has kaspersky anti virus on it but whenever i click on anything it takes at least 15 minutes to open up wont even let me scan , went into safe mode and tried to scan but it wouldnt let me saying certain functions not available in safe mode , any ideas would be greatly apprecieted. dave

Posting the 'exact' error message(s) might help. You could even try posting the 'exact' error message in Google.

Does he have Service Pack 3 Installed? Are you using a firewall? Do a general cleanup of your computer and if that doesn't help, than I would use the AOL Quick Restore. To clean out unwanted files. Start - Control Panel - Internet Options open - Delete cookies, Delete files (select all off-line content) - Click OK to Exit. Then go to Start - Run - Enter %temp% - Click OK - Click Edit - Click Select All - Delete. Start - Run - Enter - C:\windows\temp - OK - and select everything except temporary internet files, cookies and history folders and delete them. If you don't see Temporary Internet files, cookies and History listed - select all and delete. Then Restart your computer. 1. Error Checking- This takes about 35 minutes. thanks , that did the trick , he also had 2 antivirus running which wasnt helping so took mcafee off. dave
