Subject: Very slow booting process

Comment:

Hi,
The booting process of WIN XP SP2 has slowed down a lot. Last week i faced a problem where explorer.exe won't load. i repared it by reloading winxp pro sp2 thru its installer cd without formating my drive. but now it takes hell of time to start the PC or Load/start my programs like MS Office, etc., Previously it was fast. i've norton antivirus already installed & regularly updated & scanned, so there are no chances of Trojan /worm / virus. Does anyone have solution for how to make my booting process fast without formating.

A little house cleaning might be a good place to start. As I was reminded a few days back, CCleaner is an excellent tool for finding and deleting unnecessary clutter from your system. A clean system operates smoother and faster. You can get it at www.ccleaner.com/download/.

Also, check for unwanted programs in your Startup menu. Start - All Programs - Startup.
You can delete what you don't need starting up at boot.

Additionally, the msconfig utility is a great tool for systematically stopping programs to see which, if any, particular program is causing the problem. Start - Run - type "msconfig" w/o the quotes -- OK. Open the Startup tab to select / deselect programs.

Last, but not least, even with Norton on your system there is still the possibility of a infection. No anti-virus program catches everything. So, it's a good idea to have more than one -- you can download several free anti-virus programs from places like download.com. Avast is a good one. You can also go to www.trendmicro.com and run an online scan for free.

Also, if your Norton doesn't do it, download a good anti-spyware program (Spybot S&D, for example) - keep it updated and use it regularly.

I hope something in all of this helps you out. If not, hang on -- someone will be by before long with other suggestions.

Why do not u use a registry optimiser like Registry mechanic. i have tried it personally and it's really effective and dependable. Load it and start scan. it 'll report many registry problems; just click repair. i think it should solve u'r problem.
