Comment:

I have acer laptop with xp proffessional, which is part of workgrup under peer-to-peer network without domain.

when I try to use shared files on the network, following situation occures:
I can see the list of all available computers, and list of all shared resources of each of them. but when I try to open any of folders, I get message: Network not responding.
Also, I can use shared printers through office, and can ping each computer in workgroup successfully.

After first not responding, turning off the computer is extremely slow.

At the end, I have internet firewall turned on for internet connection, updated antivirus program, and reinstaled win xp(with all security patches from MS site-28 of them) on the formatted partition under ntfs.

Where is the problem?

Network - Shares

This restriction stops remote shared folders from being added to Network Places whenever you open a document in the shared folder. Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key: (Per user/Per system)

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called "NoRecentDocsNetHood" and set it according to
(0 = track shares, 1 = disable tracking). Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.

try turning off the XP firewall. This firewall is known to cuase networking problems. If this works, Iw ould recomend setting up a network firewall at the internet gateway. This wouldn't be too expensive.

Aother laptop in the network has the same problem. Other can ping me, and even can see my shared docs.

What do you think of virus in MBR? But I have up to date AVP, which can't find anything!
