I upgraded to Windows XP from Windows Me and when the installation booted It would freeze on the "Verifiying DMI pool data" message every time
I read the manual of my motherboard (Soyo SY-7VBA133) And aparently this error is caused by a peripheral or the RAM, I just reinstalled Windows 98 now, but I would like to install XP and not loose any of the components of my PC
I have an Intel Pentium III 800 Mhz processor on a SY-7VBA133 Soyo motherboard.

How to prepare to Upgrade Windows98 and Windows ME to Windows XP:

Hope this helps but I did the same when I went from Win 98 to Win Me. Its not the same but some sort of feedback helps right? I downloaded the latest utilites/bios software for my motherboard. I installed them and my system came up. I guess you can try the motherboards web site for more info. Good Luck. Hope this helps or someone else does.
I will invent a new o/s someday that dosent cause so many problem. LOL!

I first tried to upgrade, but since that error came up I formated my disc and did a clean install, I already had all the drivers I needed for all my devices but since the PC didn't boot up, I wasn't even able to enter to Windows, it has to be a problem with XP because I never had this problem with any other version of Windows since ye olde Windows 1.0.
Before I reformat my drive I would like to know if anyone knows what is exactly what is causing this problem based on my pc specifications, I don't want to reinstall everything one more time if nothing works.PS: Let me know when your new O/S is ready =)
And thanks Chuck, I already visited microsoft's site, my system meets all the demands

I have always resolved this problem by changing the BIOS settings for the hard drive. Check your hard drive specs, and see if you should be using an ATA100 ribbon cable, I have solved this just by using the correct cable. There are three to choose from, Windows XP requires the more expensive one (ha, ha, whouldn't you know it).
I also have had luck at using the most current BIOS revision and then setting the BIOS to DEFAULTS and then auto detecting the hard drive settings.

I have this problem, as well. CAnnot get it past the verifying dmi pool. Tried all the advice offered, chaned hard drives , etc to another used one on hand. All do the same. Bios all set correctly- printed manuel. If i get past it to update success , then i get the bad system diek, insert new one and hit any key- keeps doing that so it goes nowhere.
