I have a Canon Powershot G5 and a Lexmark printer both connected to my system and I cannot use them both at the same time. If I have the printer enabled and I plug in the camera to the usb I get this message "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)"

So I have to disable the printer, transfer my images, unplug the camera and enable the printer again (which requires a reboot)

How can I stop this madness?

You system only has one usb port? Usually there are two. Othewise go buy a usb hub and connect the devices to it.

Also, have you tried to completely uninstall, and then reinstall the driver? It certainly appears to be a driver conflict.

That's a damn nice camera you've got there. I recently purchased the "baby brother" to it; the Canon S1IS. And I mated it up with the Canon I960 photo printer....simply wonderful products, and stunning prints.

Wish I could offer some more advice to you, but I'm not really too knowledgable with drivers. Good luck, and take care.

Lemark works best when plugged into usb port 0. The tech support at the website offered that tibbit of info when I had the same problem.
That port is one of the ports on the back of the computer. You might have to reinstall the lexmark drivers and software. If you don't get the imfamous problems comunicating with the printer error then let it be.
BTW The lexmark site offers an uninstaller that removes everything lexmark. They highly reccomend having that.
