I wonder if you would mind helping me.

I was wanting to hook up other devices, like a VCR or game console, to play on my PC monitor. I've heard there are adaptors that let you do this.

People have told me that the best method of doing this is to use a different video card, but I and horrible when it comes to working on my computer. Every time I open one up, it never works properly again.

So, could somebody ell me what kind of adaptor I should get, or how to tell if one will work on my PC before I get it? Should I get one that hooks directly into my monitor, or something that goes through a usb port?

I don't need anything fancy, just something that lets me plug things with those red, tellow, and white plugs into it, and preferably something affordable. I also don't have any fancy kind of monitor, just a generic plug and play monitor that came with the PC.

There are different cables you can buy to convert S-Video or Compsite (Red, yellow, and white plugs) to a USB plug. They usually run around 70 bucks or more though but you won't have to worry about installing any cards. Here is a direct link to what I think you are looking for

and this is the page it is from

If you want to price shop then do a search for Composite to USB Adapter or sometimes it is called RCA to USB Adapter.

The above (HAKRJ) won't work.... This is a simple USB hub to connect other usb devices.

What you need is a video capture port (the red, white and yellow plugs known as RCA jacks)

The best thing is a TV capture card which will have RCA jacks along with S video connect and cable connect.

With this you will be able to watch TV, play video games, and connect your VCR.

They start at about $80 (US)

If you go to the page suggested in response #1 and look for the USB Audio/Video Capture Cable and get it or something like it you won't have to open up your computer.

My bad, I posted the same link twice. That's what happens when you try to help people at three in the morning. This link here is the direct link - the adapter that has the RCA jacks

I you will want a way bypass the computer and just go strait to your monitor with a console system... some kind of conversion hardware.... I am not sure what though.

In my experience trying to do a game console that goes through your computer dosn't work because it delays too much.... The conversions through the usb to processor then to the video card is just to much of a delay.

For vcr/tv it is perfectly fine, but don't expect a game console to flow to well...
