That option is entirely up to you. ALL I did was import my bookmarks because IE stores them in a different way than firefox.

There are some really cool extensions for firefox that you can download and install.

There is no "yes/no" answer to your first question. The import function is only to make it a bit easier for you to switch over. having answered No you will just have to start afresh with login/password for whatever sites you frequent.
As to the second question. When you start FF the opening page has a link to FF Help and Add-ons. Go there. lots of links from there.

Here is a more updated site with over 200 extensions for FF 1.0.
Here's a little bit about tabbed browsing.
If you want a link to open in a new tab middle click it. If you just want a new tab so you can type an address in the address bar you can right click an open spot on the tool bars and pick "customize" then drag the "new tab" button to the tool bar in the most convenient spot(mine is to the left of the address bar) that way you can just click it and start typing. If you want to open a bookmark in a new tab just middle click it. To close a tab just middle click on the tab.
I think it is the default setting to hide the tab bar if only one tab is open to be able to view more of the page. If you want the tab bar to be there all the time go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Tabbed Browsing and take the check out of "Hide the tab bar when only one web site is open". If you have text that is a url but it's not clickable you can highlight the text and drag it to the tab bar or address bar and it will open that url.
If you middle click a link and want the tab to open on the top of the other tabs instead of in the behind them go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Tabbed Browsing and check "Select new tabs opened from links", same with the bookmarks. Hope this helps a little.

If you didn't import IE favorites when you installed FF then you can open IE and go to File > import and export then export to a place you remember. Then when you open FF and go to bookmarks > manage bookmarks and then file > import and point it to the file you exported with IE.

There are some help pages built into bookmarks when you install FF. You can also click on the throbber(the thing under the close x in the upper right hand corner).
