I use AOL to talk to all my friends. I know it sucks, but they all have it, so I always have used it.
However, for some reason this time around my WindowsXP installation didnt't do something right. I am getting errors from my AOL 7 install saying that it is installing the necessary files for DUN/RAS, and that I should reboot. This happens every time I open it.
I have been told by AOL that this is because my dial up networking is not installed properly.
I have looked EVERYWHERE, and called EVERYONE save Microsoft for advice on how to reinstall, or install the first time, my dial up networking in WINXP.
PLEASE HELP! YOU'RE the last resort!!!

Go to your control panel /network connections/make a new connectionconnect to the internet/manually configure your connection/modem connect/type the name of your isp/phone number/username password

Then download the instant messenger. You dont need all the crap on the cd.EXCEPT I dont know if AOL will work with out it.Id try it .Customer service will tell you do.
You might have to type AOL/ orAOL\ infront of your user name.{not your full email adress. This also wont work with Juno.

as i understand it, you need aol's software to connect to aol. I didn't know you can manually dial in?

actually, aol installs its own dialup adapters...it doesn't even use the default ones. so i don't understand why it would need it? I once had my dialup networking messed up, yet aol still worked.

my laptop has this problem...it's been 2 or 3 years already (yes, it's been years since i have been able to connect it to the net)...i gave up long ago, although from time to time i try to figure it out. I've reinstalled software/drivers, the tcp/ip protocol, etc. all the research i did didn't get me anywhere. hopefully you find your answer...i'll be watching here :)

These are good suggestions, but I guess I forgot to include one fact.
I don't use a dial up connection to access AOL. I use my Insight RR cable modem connection to connec to AOL over TCP/IP.

Even wierder...I am an AOL beta tester, and AOL 8 Beta just came out, and I downloaded and installed it, and now I can connect to AOL, but nothing works because an error window pops up right when i sign on that says there is a problem with my connection.

This is bogus and I really wish I could get back on AOL again without using AOLIM.
Keep Thinkin!!!
