I'm thinking of getting a desktop PC as my laptop is getting a bit out of date, however i don't want to have to pay those outraaaaageous computer store prices for a monitorrrr!!!

Does anyone know if it's possible for me to just hook up the desktop to my laptop so that i can use the laptop's monitor?

Thanx.

You would have to find an adapter from VGA to whatever connector your LCD / Inverter requires, which is always extremely proprietary.

With a network connection and MaxiVista software, you can turn your laptop into a secondary monitor. I don't know if it is practical to use as a primary monitor. Or if you got a desktop with XP Professional, you could use the remote desktop feature (also requries network connection).

However, these solutions would not be suitable for gaming; and you'd probably want a backup montior (such as a cheap CRT).

This question keeps coming up, and I don't know why. You cannot do this without having the laptop up and running as a complete computer, and if you're going to do that, you might as well just use the laptop!!!!

"outraaaaageous computer store prices"

Computers have never been cheaper. Not only that, but in this area, I can get all the CRT monitors--17" anyway, for cheap. I've only once payed "store prices" for a monitor.
