STOP: C0000221 - Bad Image Checksum. User32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header check sum does not match the computed check sum.

That is my boggle. Here's what happened: I'm working on a comp that was all sorts of virused up. It got so bad it wasn't worth cleaning. (months of no maintenance by the peeps using the comp)
Anyway, I decided it was time to format and reinstall Windows XP pro. I was told by a friend the best/easiest way to do that was to reboot with Win XP disc. This I did.
Now I get the above error. Ive done lots of searching, but I haven't had a great deal of success. Ive tried the following link:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326687

I haven't had any luck booting from a WIN 98 boot disk, so I can't do step 1 from the microsoft site.

Has anyone seen this personally? What causes it? And is there an easy fix? Thanks in advance everyone!

When you did the install are you sure that ypu selected a `new' install and not an `upgrade'?

During install, choose the option to Format.
