Subject: User profiles problem... Please help!
Comment:

Hi there,

I have a problem. Please help. I installed Windows XP, did all settings, installed all apps, configured them, and after 3-4 days I had a really perfect Windows XP system on my computer with all necessary programs.

Then I decided to make a user account for my brother and another user account for my girlfriend, so they could chose their accounts at startup and use their own settings.

Okay, I created two new user accounts. After that I switched to one of them and I saw that only about 50% of the apps were installed in that profile, and most of the Windows settings I did for my account were udone (default video card settings, default themes, etc. - nearly like after the first reboot after installing WinXP). But I wanted THERE EXACTLY IDENTICAL accounts - I did not want to install many of the applications two more times, and do most of the Windows settings two more times...

So I tryed I copyed my user profile twice and created two new accounts and forced Windows XP to use the copied profiles for the new accounts. It took a long time. It worked but then I choosed to shut down Windows. The shut down process took more than 10 minutes and I got lots of error messages. After restarting Windows XP (lots of error messages again) I saw the two new accounts are gone, but in the Documents and Settings folder I found two folders which were so unaccesible, that I even could not look their content. So I had to restore my backup made with PowerQuest Drive Image 5. I tried 5 or 6 more ways to create two new user accounts which are the same like my profile (I want my brother and my girlfriend to have all programs in their accounts like I have, same settings, etc.)

I use Windows since verison 3.1 in 1992... I can say I found quite a few problems I could not solve within a few days... But I can't solve this problem at all, it seems. I have been trying this for more than a week... No result... I simply do not want to do the same procedure 2 more times (and what if I would like to do 10 similar profiles?)

So please help me and tell me in detail, step after step, how to make a working copy of a user account? Or how to make three accounts from one user account? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance
Attila
