user partition can't be found

Specs: Windows xp
have emachines desktop w3650 ordered recovery disc. when i put in os disc as instructed once i and start the recovery process it tries to format user partition in ntfs file, then tells me user partition cant be found cannot continue. PLEASE HELP

What does that mean? If you want help, you're going to have to explain more clearly. Why are you reinstalling the OS in the 1st place? Did you replace the HDD? Is it being properly recognized in the BIOS? Here's your system specs, I see you have a SATA HDD:

i am trying to reinstall the os because something happened to my computer that causes it not to boot up and say no operationg system found. ordered recovery disc from emachines and that's the first part of the instructions. will try your advice on how to install windows xp to sata hard drive. thanks

tried what you said it didn't work. my solution was to use another hard drive to get into windows so i could see my hard drive as drive E then i formatted it. thanks for the info though.
