when I log on to Windows, I got this message:

User Environment

Windows Cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible cause of this error...

when I click OK I got 2nd msg:

Windows cannot find local profile.... Changes you make will be lost when you log off...

When ever problems happen, it is good to see if Windows Safe-Mode works-
A Description of the Safe Mode Boot Options in Windows XP
OR try Last Known Good... in Boot Options.

You could have a corrupted profile-
How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile
