I am trying to install my first xp machine in a 35 computer netware environment at work. My users float from machine to machine quite a bit. I do not want to setup 35 users on each new manchine. Is there any way to disable the user accounts portion of xp? If I am being an idiot here let me know, but I can not find it anywhere.

You can set up Xp to default to a single user account each time, to automatically log on. Start, Run, control userpasswords2, you can check the box to enable a single account to automatically log on. Are you on a domain? If so, this option will not work; nonetheless, you could set the accounts on the server and not have to worry about adding the accounts locally.

Install a server as domain controller and create the users on the domain.

Why bother with XP? Just use 2000, it's less buggy anyway.

okay guys for starters, the question is about NETWARE not microsoft servers. What sort of setup are we talking here? my initial reaction to this is to let the NDS take care of it, all you whould have to do is deploy an updated client.

It is netware 4.10. I can get the netware server to recognize the user names no problem, but the local xp system will not allow users to sign in unless they are setup as users on that particular machine. I don't want to enter 35 employees and their passwords in each new machine as I put them out. Besides with turnover, the people would change all the time. I would like to turn off the user accounts if possible and just sign in on the netware login, but i can't figure out how.
please help if you can layne

layne, you need client services for netware installed on the 35 client machines. this will disable the windows user switching and login methods and achieve what you desire.
