Solved used computer with XP home premium

June 19, 2012 at 18:06:35
Specs: windows xp Home premium, pentium 4: 2.6Ghz cpu 1gig ram.
I bought a used generic computer with an Intel pentium 4: 2.6Ghz cpu 1gig ram running
Win/XP home premium sp3. every thing works ok and the system is pretty quick, however
I want to load a different OS (ubuntu 12.4).
This system isn't like my athalon pc in that I can't pull up "bios" or "boot menu" with
F2, F5, F1O or F11. None of the F keys seem to work.
What needs to be done?
Thanks for your patience.

"I can't pull up "bios" or "boot menu" with
F2, F5, F1O or F11."

Those are generally OEM keys. Since you have a "generic" system, try Del or Esc

Some computers don't like usb keyboards. Try a ps/2 keyboard and see if you can access bios. Try the delete key and insert key also.

Hang up and live.

If the hd is not the 1st boot device try using a CD or USB memory stick to boot from.

Running from windows does the wubi install. Some people love it and some hate it.

Hang up and live.
