Subject: Use mouse to get out of Standby?OS: Windows XP Pro SP2CPU/Ram: Athlon XP 2500+ w/ 512MB |
Comment: I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a way to get Windows to come out of Standby by moving the mouse, or clicking, or heck, even pressing a key on the keyboard? I'm just kinda curious, because I've heard mention of such an ability on some posts on other sites, and it would be very convinient for me to be able to do this. Even better, is there a way to get Windows out of Standby via anything connected to a USB port? I have an ATI Remote Wonder, and though I can make my computer go into Standby, I have to go push the botton on the tower to get it to come back off. Any ideas? Thanks! Reply: (edit)Thanks for the quick response, guys! I will try the mouse properties and BIOS as soon as I get home from work, and then I'll look into the HD standby settings too. I'll post the results tomorrow :) MSI K7N2-Delta Athlon XP 2500+ 2x256MB Kingston HyperX PC-2700 ATI Radeon X800 Pro 256MB SB Live! 5.1 MSI TV@nywhere Master WD 160GB 7200rpm HDD LiteOn 52x CD-RW LiteOn 16x DVD

Reply: (edit)Well, I checked the properties dialog box on my mouse, and I don't have a "power" tab at all :(. It was using Windows' standard PS/2 drivers, so I thought I'd try to download the manufacturers drivers (it is a wireless Logitech model). Once that was installed, I had more options but still no power-related ones. It also had a nasty side-effect of making my cursor move much slower, even with the speed turned all the way up, so I uninstalled it and went back to the standard drivers. I also checked through the power-management section of my BIOS, but I didn't see anything relating to the mouse. I read that post up there about the HD, but I'm nt sure I understand what you meant, big. Anyway, thanks for the ideas, it was worth trying :) If you have any more, I'd appreciate it! Reply: (edit)Okay, I followed your instructions: Mouse > Properites > (5 tabs) Hardware (last tab) > Properites > But here I only get 3 tabs, not 4 like you said. I am missing the one about power managment. I tried this at home (where I would like this feature), and double checked on the computer at work (also WinXP), and it is the same (only 3 tabs). Is there somewhere I need to "enable" power managment for the mouse? A tweak somewhere, perhaps? Or could it be a functionality I lost when I went to Service Pack 2? Reply: (edit)I have a question. My laptop is an HP Compaq. When the computer goes on standby the blue light blinks, as is expected...However, the screen turns black and when I move the mouse to get things running again, nothing happens. Moreover, when I turn on the power button...the screen remains black..and moving the mouse/pressing buttons on the keypad does not help. I had to take out the battery pack...unplug the computer..and plug it back in and put back the battery pack to turn on the computer normally...Is this the normal procedure to exit standby? Please Help. I'd appreciate an email if possible
