Um, think about this....no.

There is software that will allow your PDA to operate as a remote control, some of the better apps allow you fully customizable interfaces.

But you need something to point at the IR receiver in your laptop......otherwise you may as well just get up and use the laptop =)

Hi Jeruvy,

I think you misunderstood my post... What i want is a software that let my latpop be used as a remote control for my tv, vcr, etc...

As i work on my laptop a lot and also watch tv at the same time, i thought it would be cool to have a universal remote control software in my laptop, so that i can change channel, volume on my tv without having to pick up the tv remote.

so i need a software that will me to do this... control the tv, vcr using the infrared port on my laptop...

thanx

With all due respect you are misunderstood.

The laptop has a IR receiver, not transmitter...perhaps such a thing exists but I'm not aware of one.

If you do manage to find one, let me know.

Regards,

My apologies. I did a little checking and the models used today (in my laptop for instance) has both transmitter and receiver. I have only used the older models. Sorry I got mixed up.

My laptop has what is known as a IR tranceiver...It has both a transmitter and a receiver...

What i am not sure about is whether the wavelength of the laptop's tranceiver is the simlar to the wavelength used by remote control units...

I know there are software for pda's that allow them to be used as a remote control... what i need is a similar software for my laptop....

i recently lost my vcr's remote control amd am too lazy to go to the store to buy a universal remote control.... i will eventualy buy this universal remote control... i need this software for purely geek reasons :-)

regards
