USB won't work

I reinstalled my Windows XP. Now, every time that I go to plug any USB device in, nothing happens! I don't hear the familiar "device connect" sound, nothing. I have a SanDisk Smart Media reader and a digital camera that I've tried plugging into it. Neither of them work. I used to be able to go into My Computer to see them listed as a removable storage device, but not anymore.
Also, I've tried re-installing the software for SanDisk, but that didn't help either. Is there a service that needs to be turned on? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Dear Nate, had this happen to me once. After ripping out about half my receding hair I opend up the PC and found that the cable connecting the USB port to the motherboard had disconected itself. After putting it back it worked again. Have you checked in the device manager that there are no problems with the USB? If you see nothing wrong in the device handler I would open the PC and make sure all cables are hooked up right. Good Luck-Lars

If everything is enabled in Device Manager, try using different ports. Some are underpowered for some peripherals. You might also try a powered hub if you don't have one.

Morning, Go into the BIOS and make sure the USB ports are enabled. I found that after a reinstall, I had to change the USB settings. Just a quick thought, XDon
