USB to Parallel Printing Problems

I have a Sony Vaio laptop with no parallel port, so I bought a USB to Parallel cable for connecting to printers when I'm on the road. I travel extensively on business and it's easier, instead of transferring documents to a thumb drive and hoping for an accessible USB port, to just hook up to the printer directly. At first this worked perfectly. I would connect the parallel end to the printer, make sure it was on, etc. and then plug into my USB port. The laptop would instantly recognize what kind of printer it was and install the drivers and away we'd go.
Lately, however, when I connect to a new printer, I immediately get an "USB device unrecognized" message and the computer can't recognize or print to the new device.

You need to reinstall the drivers that came with the USB/Parallel lead. I've had the same problem in the past with my laptop & old hp printer - no idea why it happens but it just seems to lose the drivers occasionally.
