My eMachine has a Floppy (A:), a single hard drive (C:) a DVD (D:) and a CD (E:).
When I plug my Attache 256MB USB thumbdrive into the USB port, it usually shows up as 2 drives - Removable Drive (F:) and Removable Drive (G:). When it doesn't show up twice, it shows up as Removable Drive (G:).
If I use it on my IBM XP Pro system, it shows up as a single USB Mass Storage Device.
All indications are that the system thinks the F drive is a floppy drive. e.g. If I try to open the F drive from My Computer, XP tells me to insert a disk into drive F. The G: drive always works as expected.
When I want to safely remove the device, I can choose either the F drive or the G drive from the list and they both will go away.
Any ideas (other than "It's an eMachine, that's why!")on why it sometimes shows up twice on this system?
Thanks!

What type of thumbdrive is it?
When you have it plugged in, go into system properties and find the specified device, then delete it.
Then perhaps reinstall the device with any drivers it may have come with (some don't). If there aren't any available, it's possible Windows will install it right this time.
Is the drive readable? If so try and format it with a FAT32 or NTFS file system.
