USB stick error

Hi I have the following problem

If I start my pc with my flashdrive in the USB port I can double click it and the drive will open so far so good. But if i click to safely remove and remove the stick and plug it back in It does not open I get the following error:

choose theprogram you want to use to open this file

Any Idea's

What kind of flash drive is it.

The newer U3 drives are sometimes treated as software because of the specialized formatting used for installing programs.

Try going to the manufacturer's website and download and install the specific drivers for that drive.

go to command prompt, browse to your usb drive, check if there's a file called autorun.inf on it which is hidden:

eg, if USB is G: drive:

G:
dir /a autorun.inf


if there was, unhide it and delete, then restart


attrib -a -s -h -r autorun.inf
del autorun.inf


this normally happens if you had a USB flash virus on it and your AV deleted it but the autorun refers to the file that must be run everytime.

I'd have a look at your registry settings in the run part:

use msconfig.


if all else fails, reinstall windows

also there is a small program to do this called
"flash cleaner" or something.
