March 1, 2013 at 10:45:28
Specs: Windows XP, Pen 3.4GHz/1gig
My USB devices work fine. But the information bar on the bottom right has no in use icon to use to stop a device.
I have to go to task manager to see and stop USB devices.

Open a command-prompt box like this:

Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.

Type this:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll

Press <Enter>

Missing icon should be restored.

Command prompt opens a dos window . (C:\Documents and Settings\elcue>)
I enter C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll

This brings up the safely remove hardware window but I still have no icon in bottom right corner by the time / active bar.
I try to hit enter and just get C: and go from there but it just keeps repeating
(C:\Documents and Settings\elcue>)Total Entry looks like this

(C:\Documents and Settings\elcue>C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll)
Again this gets me the Safely Remove Hardware window but no icon on the bottom rt.

✔ Best Answer
Right click on the Start button, click Properties, then click the Taskbar tab. Make sure the boxes next to "lock the taskbar", "group similar", & "hide inactive" are unchecked & check the box for "show quick launch", then click Apply.
