Recently I had a problem with my printer being connect to my USB port. Everytime I tried to print my computer would shut off! I tried everything under the sun to try to make it work but the only thing that would was by buying a parellel cable. Now I just purchased a Digital camera. When I connected it to the computer (of course via USB) the computer shut off the minute the camera got connected. What is wrong with my USB? Why is it making the computer shut off? Help!

Did you try removing the USB controlers from:
control panel> system> hardware> device manager
when you reboot it should reload the drivers for you.

Also check you BIOS settings for USB just in case they've been mangled.

One of problems with XP (or is an advantage) is you have to tell it to show you the BSOD to get the error message which otherwise causes XP to shut down. Try this
Right click my computer/properties/advanced/startup and recovery/settings.
Uncheck automatically restart.
To view the error message. Let us know.

Apart from that I'd guess, because you've had problems with two totally unrelated products (and different cables?), that the USB port has died.

You should be able to pick up a PCI USB fairly cheaply, plus the bonus of USB2 if you didn't have it before.
