Receive error power surge on hub port usb device has exceeded the power limit of its hub port. This is happening after I plug into my usb port my targus numeric keypad. I have disabled the power in power management. Is their anything else I can do to resolve this problem. I have a dell 840 laptop and have already updated the bios from ao7 tp a09

It sounds as though the keyboard is drawing more power than your USB port can put out. They are limited in how much power you can draw from USB.

Try plugging it straight into the computer's USB port instead of going through the hub. Any hub is probably going to limit the power each device can draw...particularly if you have multiple devices plugged into the USB port.

If your USB hub isn't powered, you're just running more devices off your computer's USB port power. More devices drawing from the same limited power source equals bad news. ;)

I can't imagine there being any settings in Windows or in your BIOS to fix this problem. The device is simply drawing too much power. Not quite sure what can be done about that aside from not using the device as a USB device.

Hi again.

Yes, I know it's a numeric keypad. I probably just accidentally typed keyboard. LOL.

Do you have another computer you can try the device on? How about a different USB port on the same computer?

Thanks again Bryan. This problem is driving me crazy because its happened twice. I sent back the first targus numerica pad, then received the second same thing happened. Now I've sent that one back. I called targus with no avail and since I have a dell latitude C840 laptop I've left a message there, but still no one has answered. I just updated my bios from A08 to A10 and I'm hoping when my new one comes in the problem is no longer there. Thank you so much for your help and your interest.
Gail
