Hello!

I was told my issue is a WinXP problem, so I hope it's ok if I post it here...
Anyway, this is my problem:
I just bought a printer (Epson DX5050, see end for product link) and I can't install it because there is apparently no USB printer port. When ever I try to manually add a printer through the control panel, I can only select the LPT1-3, COM1-7 ports.

So my question is: How may I create a USB printer port for my printer?

I'm monitering the thread so I'll be able to respond to anything within the hour. Thanks in advance =)

(I couldn't find it on the english site)

You need to buy a USB card for the machine if no USB ports are present.

"USB card" as in USB 2.0 or "USB card" as in a USB printer-friendly card?

Sorry, I'm not that experienced when it comes to this so I'm a little confused =)

Hmmm...

A USB card composes of a USB host controller and several USB ports that allow you to ... USB cards come in two favors: USB PCI card, and USB CardBus. ... read more HERE.

No you don't. Does the printer have USB2 port? If it does all you need is a USB cable.

The printer has a USB2 port, according to the instructions all I'm supposed to do is to connect that USB2 to my PC's USB2. When I do that my computer recognizes that something is connecting but it can't sense what.

Also, when I connect the two a new device pops up in my Device Manager called:
"USB2.0 MFP(Hi-Speed)", but there's a yellow warning sign on it.

I hope that helps more ^_^;;

Load the drivers/software before connecting the printer. The software should tell you when to connect the printer.

I tried that. The computer does sense that something is connecting to the computer but it fails to realize that it's the printer.

I've added an image to further explain. The reason I can't connect is because there is no USB Printer Port which has to exist in order to get the USB printer to work, I think. Or at least that's what they told me when I called Epson's support. And apparently that's not their problem. They blame it on Microsoft and that I should take it up with them, but we all know how they are... So I'd rather take my chances on a forum. But so far I think you're all doing great =D

I hope the image will help in some way...

I used Google webpage translator service to translate it from French to English. This printer is USB-compliant. Look HERE for the spec. (Give the page time to re-traanslate)

Your printer is Epson Stylus DX5050, correct?

Exactly, I have more than several USB2 ports built in on the Motherboard (Asus A8N-32 SLI DELUXE, see end for product link) so I know it's USB2 ports. But what I still don't understand is why there is no USB2 port I can connect through. I have the right drivers for my motherboard, the physical ports work, I've tried them all with other devices.

I wish, my friends know about as little as I do when it comes to computers =(

I'd be happy to ask Microsoft for help if it werren't for the fact that they charge you for asking for help.

So I suppose no one knows how to create a USB printer port..? =(

Microsoft will help you only if you have retail Windows XP CD. If the PC is OEM, they will tell you to contact the manufacturer.

Ok you have been patient so here goes, what did the "Manual" that came with the printer say about hooking it up to a computer or better yet what "Drivers" are on any CD that may have come with it, we don't mind helping but you could help us all by reading the manual first...

I'll write the exact procedure instructed in the so-called installation guide:

--------
--------

1) Check so you have all the stuff.
- Done

2) Remove the protective stuff from the printer.
- Done

3) Plug in the power chord, then start up the printer.
- Done

4) Open the printer and insert the ink cartridges into the printer as shown in the images, then close the printer.
- Done

5) Press the Ink button on the printer and wait 2min.
- Done

6) Insert the installation CD and follow the easy install.
- Done

7) When the installation tell you to; plug in the USB2 chord into the printer and the PC to establish a connection.
- ((( here is where is fails, it can't connect )))

8) Continue the installation and install the programs and stuff.
- Done

9) Reboot when the installation is complete.
- Done

--------
--------

That's pretty much the exactly what it says. =(

Sorry, I forgot:

Driver-wise; the drivers appears to be installed correctly, the only thing that doesn't work is when the PC tries to connect to the Printer.

The cable you have used may be defective. Try a different USB cable that you know is in good working condition.

Ok, I tried a different cable now. I have an external HD that I connect to via a USB2 chord so I know it works. But it didn't work, it still can't find a USB2 Printer Port. =(
