Haveing problems with usb port on back of my computer. Only one side is working.I have a mouse and a scanner i'm trying to use.But only one port will work. If I plug in scanner, the mouse does not work and vice versa. I have taken it to the computer place where it was purchased and they got both ports to work. When I got home and plugged things back in ,I had the same problem ,only one port works. Does anyone know what could be happening. I checked the device manager and it says that the device is working. Would it have something to do with the port not having enough power??

Did the tech at the store [tell] you he got both ports working, OR, did you actually get to [see] both ports working?

To ops,
Yes, I was there when the tech showed me that they actually worked. At first his mouse would only work in the one port. He did something that got it to work. It seems to me that he shut the computer off ,unplugged the mouse from the good port then restarted the computer. After windows loaded up and computer was running, he then plugged in the mouse in the bad port and it worked. He then used the other port and it also worked. He assured me that it would work when I took it home. He said I looked kind of skeptical about it , but I said ok anyways. I took it home and I encountered the same problem, only one port works. Somewhere between my home and the computer shop there's a problem. That's why I think There may be a problem with not having enough power to run both ports. I had my computer plugged into a power bar with about 5 other things,so i plugged the computer into a another receptacle on its own. It didn't make a difference.Anyone have any suggestions,thanks--mikburn

You could try this... I had kind of a similar problem. My adsl usb modem would not start up when I turned on the computer, but if I plugged it in after I turned on the computer it would start straight away! I went to devise mgr, usb root hub properties, power management, and unticked "allow windows to turn off this device to save power". I have not had the problem since.
Hope it helps,
Sue
