Ok, so I recently installed XP onto my computer after an OS failure and now my USB ports won't work. I can charge my mp3 player from them, but windows doesn't detect the new hardware. I know there's a way to check this but I have stupidly forgotten it. Please help?

Ok, I just remembered how to get into the device manager. My USB ports are not in there and I have no installation CD with my motherboard as it is a total frankenstein's computer. How can I get my pc to find my usb ports?
I have built a monster!

Sounds to me like usb support is not enabled in the bios, it's worth checking that it is.

Ok, so I enabled them in the bios only to get a /system error. I tried the recovery console and got a blue screen after selecting install 1 saying "system registry error." So in desperation I tried a reformat but after pressing F8 to agree to terms and conditions it immediately blue screened again. I have had an mbr error in the past and was wondering when doing fdisk/mbr would help. What do you think?
