I got problem, Got a new computer cheap one. Foxconn 45CMV motherboard in it.
Every now and then my keyboard stops working. And sometimes my USB Memory stick when i plug it in, says device not recognised, where other times works fine.
I installed service pack 3 that was suggested by a friend. But it still happens.
I have 2 printers connected, microsoft wireless reciever for keyboard and mouse.
Nothing else usb connected.is my PC not generating enuff power for the usb? or another problem ?

The two issues may not be related. When using the flash drive are you always using the same port?
The wireless combo may have interference. try moving the receiver around. Read the manual for the set.

same port each time, old pc the receiver was working fine for months, now new PC everyday it stops working, only way to get working again is to power down pc and unplug power cable, wait 10 minutes then connect back up and turn on.

It can make a difference which USB port you plug into, or you may have an IRQ sharing problem.
See response 3 in this:
http://www.computing.net/answers/wi...If your system came pre-assembled, el-cheapo systems have el-cheapo power supplies that are a lot more likely to give you problems, and they are more likely to have front USB case ports that have inadequate wiring.

Hi all.
I too have an issue where USB 2 devices in USB 2 ports register as USB 1 and yet Windows insists on advising me that there are free USB 2 ports there for the taking, but I think I will ask that in a separate post and not hi-jack this.
But I do have one small question that may be answered here. I have a free Firewire 400MBs socket free at the rear of my PC.
I know that there are available converter plug/sockets that will convert Firewire to USB (I have one but it has a male USB end and I want one with a a female USB end).
My question now is, if I use such a converter what speed USB can I expect, USB 1 or USB 2?

Some older mboards have both some USB 1.1 only ports and some USB 2.0 ports which are backward compatible with USB 1.1, but usually if you have USB 2.0 support all ports should provide USB 2.0 support. If the latter is your situation, see the info at the link in response 3 - you may need to plug into a different USB port.
If there is an adapter that converts a firewire port to USB use, it would probably have to have circuits included to convert one to the other, and it would probably convert the port to USB 2.0 use.

Hi there.
Yes I have read post 3, it's good info and in part I think there is an explanation towards my problem as far as it may relate to power.
The strange part is that the external USB HD that I mentioned is on the same card as the ones that are misrepresenting them selves.
I have tried swapping sockets around at the back of the PC amongst the vacant sockets. In each the external HD works as it should yet when any of the others are utilized, the old warning pops ups.
It really looks like a no win situation at this point of time. :-(

"In each the external HD works as it should yet when any of the others are utilized, the old warning pops ups."
That is a symptom you can get if you have an IRQ sharing problem - some things work fine - some don't - see the info about that at the same link.
