USB ports only recognise NTFS

October 15, 2009 at 05:38:40
Specs: Windows XP
My USB ports will now only recognise devices that have been formatted with NTFS. Normal SD cards or camera memory cards, when inserted are said to not be formatted and I am asked if I want to format them. If I do, they are then not recognised by the camera etc. Any help much appreciated.

Hope u r using windows xp with sp2
Right click My computer select Manage
From this window select from left pane
disk management
here on right hand side you will find your removable media
right click change the partition to FAT32
create the new partition [Beware that you are not selecting
your hard drive partition]
and then format the drive
Now it will work with all the compatible devices...

Hi. Thanks for the response but it doesn't seem to help. If a device is formatted with NTFS it is recognised. Any flavour of FAT is not. Any NTFS devices are not recognised by cameras etc so I am in a bit of a stalemate situation. It's running XP Pro with all updates applied, by the way. Thanks. Steve.
